Northeastern to Name Hall After Late Iranian Prime Minister
Chicago— Northeastern Illinois University will make history when it names a student area in its College of Business and Management Building in honor of the late Iranian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh on Oct. 5. This is the first time a university has honored the prime minister. The hall, which will be named Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh Servant Leaders Hall, is a gathering place for Northeastern students, faculty and staff and is used for many events and receptions throughout the year.
Naming ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. with a recognition luncheon and continue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Northeastern’s main campus, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. in Chicago. Northeastern President Sharon Hahs and the leaders of the Iranian community living in the United States, Canada and Europe will preside over the naming ceremonies. Along with naming the hall, Northeastern Illinois University has established an endowed student scholarship and lecture fund under the name of the former prime minister.
Mossadegh is considered one of the most popular and significant Iranians throughout history. The epitome of Mossasdegh’s political career was his 27 months of service as Iran’s democratically elected prime minister. It was his lifelong struggle for independence and democracy that bestowed a venerable and unique historical stature upon him in Iran and the world. He was known as an incorruptible and ethical man among Iranians and was selected Man of the Year by Time Magazine in 1952.
